STATEMENT

Cosmos Early Learning and Consulting Services operates on the unceded territory of the Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin) and Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ people (settler-colonial Lanark, Ontario). This land nurtures us, holds, teaches us, and we have great respect for those who cared for her before us, and those who will do the same after we have gone. As a provider who centres the wellbeing of children, I feel compelled to specifically call out the horrific crimes committed against children, families and communities through the residential school system. The impact and legacy of these atrocities are ongoing, and I recognize my privilege that is rooted in this shared history. To all First Nations, Inuit and Métis, I offer gratitude for your invaluable contributions, traditions and knowledge from which I continue to learn and grow.

INVITATION

Through this statement I hope to encourage reflection on our current oppressive systems of governance and ways of living that continue to disadvantage and harm Indigenous communities across Canada and worldwide; to take action and stand in solidarity with First Nations through political, educational and monetary commitments; to be an active ally on the path to reconciliation. I am learning, and I believe that once you know better- you have a responsibility to do better. Please join me in this effort.
